Earlier this year we were considering some APIs to this effect (you can still see them in pyglet/ext/scene2d), but are concentrating at the moment on getting pyglet stable and complete as a lower-level platform library.
After pyglet is released I hope to revisit sprite-like high-level functionality (but this is not in the foreseeable future).
