Why is it you don't want to use the Wii Remote for this?
It's a 1024x768 camera with a 100hz refresh rate that passes you the x & 
y coordinates for up to 4 points.
It's will hands-down outperform a USB webcam, unless you spend hundreds 
of dollars on it and much effort steamlining everything.
As far as performance and ease, the Wii Remote is much more advanced.  
If you're just doing it for the experience, go ahead, but I suspect 
you'll spend a large amount of your time on the capture step and very 
little on the head tracking.
