PEP 8 requires 72 character lines for docstrings and comments. Also just to make it explicit it says it is okay to increase code line length to 100 if there is consensus in a project but the 100 characters includes the new line. I thought I should mention this in case anyone is not clear on this that means 99 printable characters followed by a line feed. Also prefer using bracket based continuation over using back slashes where appropriate.
