Thanks, Claudio, that was it. I was thinking that if the PC could
handle the monitor at 1920x1080, pyglet could also display that, but
apparently not. :)
I do in fact have a relatively old machine, a (refurbished) HP-Compaq
8000 Elite with an integrated video chipset (Intel Q45/43), which is
nearly 8 years old.
Sadly, the GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE did turn out to be 1024.
