Thanks, Istvan! These sound like excellent reasons to ignore Python 2.3 on Windows. I appreciate your pointing out these differences vs. Unix. If we can just tell users to upgrade Python, life will be much better. You are quite right that on Mac (for example), telling people to upgrade Python is not necessarily trivial, unfortunately...
