Currently there seems to be a broad discontent over the status of the
Postgres drivers for Python. There had been discussions on the Postgres
mailing list recently and today a blog post even made it on reddit
(http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/database-soup/postgres-needs-a-new-python-driver-36815),
so we may expect some more attention now.
Part of the concern seems to be legitimate, but of course there are also
some misconceptions. Anyway, we should take this as a challenge to
improve and modernize PyGreSQL, and account for the feedback and
suggestions made by the community, and maybe get some more people
involved in the project.
But we first really need a modern VCS and an issue tracker or project
management tool such as Trac to make this happen. I have already started
working in my own private repository because access to the CVS does not
work and is so cumbersome, and I'D like to merge my latest changes back.
@D'Arcy: Can we expect some progress here any time soon, i.e. as long as
the public interest is there? If you don't have the time or ressources,
why not move to a public project platform such as SourceForge, Bitbucket
or Google Code?
