Thanks, this works like a charm.

Note that there is still a bug when you attempt to actually use a
function, whatever it's supposed to do.  Test by supplying a dummy
function; I get:

SystemError: new style getargs format but argument is not a tuple

It looks like a bug in gtkmodule.
