As for a GL area wrapper, I remember someone talking about doing a wrapper a while back, but I don't know what came of it. It would not be difficult to do. I may take a look at it when I get round to checking out the G200 glx drivers that are being developed, but don't expect anything soon (I don't know any opengl programming at present, so it is not a high priority for me).
