Probably no one remembers that I reported a problem when running the
pygnome/examples programs. I was getting a bunch of strange looking error
reports. It turned out that the problem was with the version of ImageMagick
that I was using. I downloaded the latest ImageMagick rpms and all is now
well...except, the examples run very slowly, or at least, they start up very
slowly. Presumably, this is because ImageMagick's convert is being invoked to
translate an image format -- but, why? Is the problem possibly the theme that
I'm using. Is there a configuration in gnome that I should look at? Other
gnome apps don't seem to run this slowly, so I'm a bit perplexed.
