I've just discovered that half of it was working all along. I was changing the
background colour for each node, which was having no effect. I've just tried
changing the *foreground* colour: that works fine. Presumably the CTree is only
using the STATE_NORMAL style to draw the text, not to clear the row
underneath...

So, what state does it use for the background?
