I would prefer to wait until 2.2 hits some sort of beta status, in light
of the changes like the above. I know they are trying not to play around
with the internals much more at this point, but the current HEAD is
pretty solid, whereas the python22-branch has a "works today, but maybe
not tonight" possibility about it.

Leave it on the branch. Some us are bashing on it (well, I've built it
and the demo ran -- what more could a man want). Leave HEAD as something
that works with released stuff for a while.

Just my opinion. Not refundable for cash.
