Turns out there is an excelent pygtk tutorial written by John Finlay, who I bet is a member of this list. In this excelent tutorial, chapter 18.2, he explains Monitoring IO with the 'input_add(source, condition, callback)' here is the link http://www.moeraki.com/pygtktutorial/sec-monitoringio.html This does exactly what I need so thank you John, I am sure that most of you already knew about this tutorial, I cant wait to read more from it.
