Well, think about it.

    img = gtk.Image()

This is an image object. Hopefully you agree that img here is said
image.

    img.set_from_stock(...)

At this point, you *still* have an image object in img -- it doesn't
magically mutate into None, right? That is, unless you are doing

    img = img.set_from_stock(...)

which you shouldn't be doing.
