I tried it, but it doesn't seem to work. Is it enough to code something like 
this?

...
import gtk
gtk.settings_get_defautl().props.gtk_font_name = "Arial 20"
...

Doesn't work on WinXP, hadn't had the time to test it on Unix. property 
gtk_xft_dpi doesn't exit on Win32.
