I am not planning to turn this into a standalone project, so I am also
am not planning to write documentation or create a website. If anyone
wants to maintain this code, I'll be happy to hand over.

I got a lot of feedback off-list and have fixed a couple of bugs, so
here is another release:

The package now also contains an example/ directory with some code in
it.
