On Windows XP (32 bit) the crt is installed into C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC90.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.21022.8_x-ww_d08d0375 That last directory name has the version number embedded into it's name (9.0.21022.8). It is OK to have multiple versions installed at the same time, as long as this one is present. If you see that, it should work. If it still doesn't work then I don't know what could be the problem.
