in r1684, Martin threw away old code:
# Only 'posix' and 'nt' os specific modules are supported.
# 'dos', 'os2' and 'mac' (MacOS 9) are not supported.
Isn't this a new restriction we need to document? Is it enough to put it
into the Changelog?
