Hi Hartmut, I did not have setuptools, distribute or pip installed, nor do I do so now.
With regard to my python version, I'm sure I was running python 2.7.5, which is the default python installed on MacOSX 10.9.4 (which I am running). However, I've just noticed I also had Python installed via MacPorts. However, this version is placed in /opt/local/ and had a version above 2.7.5 for more than 10 months. So I'm quite sure I was not running that version. I would expect that having these installations side-by-side should not cause the problem? The problem was also reproducable when packaging the TouchTracer example provided with Kivy (which I also reported on the Kivy mailing list [1]). I've just uninstalled the MacPorts version and I can still package the TouchTracer example without problems. Let me know if I can do anything to help solve this problem.
