I found the superficial cause of the hang. It is the same issue that I reported here, including a minimal example. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/PyInstaller/DCJMNNbfRNs/cUdCovU4JMgJ The issue occurs because something is imported from PyQt5.Qt. PyDev had automatically added an import from there for me and I hadn't noticed. While I have resolved my immediate issue by not importing from PyQt5.Qt it would still be helpful to know what causes this.
