this is getting nowhere, and is wasting time. i will not be reading
nor responding to any further messages with the subject "promoting
pyjamas", despite it being the subject "promoting pyjamas".
Good. That means I can jump in, without risk of wasting your time.
In my opinion, www.pyjs.org <http://www.pyjs.org> should lead to a 404
page which says some form of "lose the www". This is an error page, so
it is 100% standards-compliantly clear that the user or linker has
made an error. But it is a user-friendly error message, so there is a
chance for the user to understand what they've done wrong. It's just
the equivalent of the difference between a BSOD and a usable error
message.
OK, so my suggestion has been made. I won't be opening my mouth on
this topic again. There are better things to do than carrying a
pointless grudge against the puke-colored bikeshed.

Since people that are used to "www" have been repeatedly called
"stupid", I thought I'd give my point on you on why www is rather logical:
web devs KNOW that internet is not just for http requests, so they've
chosen subdmains to help figure out stuffs:
smtp.domain.com is for email sending
imap.domain.com is for email watching
ftp.domain.com is for FTPing
and for world wide web viewing, what is it, what is it ??? You guessed
it, www.domain.com
In a perfectly logical world, domain.com would just be a list of
available services, or a redirection depending on the protocol used
(when possible).
