Luke, $$$ PLEASE READ $$$ this! 2012/2/5 Jameson Quinn <[email protected]>: > In my opinion, www.pyjs.org should lead to a 404 page which says some form > of "lose the www". This is an error page, so it is 100% > standards-compliantly clear that the user or linker has made an error. It's just the equivalent of the > difference between a BSOD and a usable error message.
I was tempted to give this a "+1" but I'm so terrified of Google Minus taking over world power that I'd better not done this (yes, I've done this with this sentence). That brings me to the next step, an idea that's even more evil than refusing to add a "www" CNAME entry: Fundraising! (I'm serious!) Why not add a wildcard DNS record (*.pyjs.org) and redirect all traffic to such a "404 fun page", and then add some $$$ ads $$$ there (no link to pyjs.org---the intelligence test must go on!). Landers on that page should either _click_ on the ads (!) or _type_ "pyjs.org" correctly in the browser's address bar. I'd give it a try! I think that would be smart, the ultimate combination of everything: We could still insist on "people who need www are Maslov victims", teach www-addicts and Maslov victims they should not use www, _and_ make money with the help of everyone who does not pass the intelligence test. (Forgive me everyone for not being polite: I'm just trying to transport the idea.) What do you think? That may generate more financial contribution than all the donation buttons scattered over the pyjs.org website! Cheer up! Peter
