The 3 bytes are a Byte Order Mark (aka BOM), signalling that that file is UTF-8 encoded. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark#Representations_of_byte_order_marks_by_encoding Looks like we are supposed to provided UTF-8 encoded files with "no BOM", correct? Peter
