I'm getting the same error with latest SVN. This isn't related to
pylons (sorry group) but I couldn't manage to post a ticket on the
authkit trac. Just wanted to let you know since this is a pre-release.
I'm not using paste or any config file.
The problem appears to be fixed by changing line 513 of AuthKit/
authkit/authenticate/ to final = options rather than final = {}
