l...@myself..  Ok I found the problem.
It was my routes.
I'd been so careful in putting in an index.html route to my primary
conroller/action that there was no route for '/' so it just gave an
error.
why nginx didn't pick up the index.html is prob just in the config
file somewhere, but the route has been fixed now.
