The main difference between the two machines is that the one at work is a hyperthreaded Pentium 4, so it's effectively multiprocessor. Don't know whether that's relevant, but it could well be.
Nick: is your Win2K box multiprocessor?
And, just for the record, my Win2k is a Virtual PC on my Powerbook G4.
