I made some tests. I have compiled attached java program on windows
with
   $ /cygdrive/c/MinGW/bin/gcj --version
   gcj.exe (GCC) 3.4.2 (mingw-special)

memory commited for this process was about 6 Mb and it was stable.

Also I have compiled this src on linux with
    $ gcj --version
    gcj (GCC) 4.1.0 20060304 (Red Hat 4.1.0-3)

It took about 22 Mb and was stable too at this level.

This means something's broken in PyLucene. Probably something to do with releasing stuff from the thread after it completes.
