I just had another, more general question:
As I mentioned, I am a beginner programmer and not really familiar with
pyLucene yet. However, I am definitely willing to take the time to learn
how to use it for my research purposes, IF it is the correct tool to
use. As such, I would just like to check from the outset that it is
correct, before I invest too much time in learning how to use it.

Basically, I will have a folder full of text files containing some
product reviews. What I need to do is to use python and some searching
tool to accept a string as input, then search for instances of this
string in the text files in the folder, and return the names of the
files containing the string.

At a more advanced level, I would like to be able to sort the results in
some meaningful manner.

Is pyLucene the right tool for me? Do you think it would be most
suitable for this purpose?

Yes, you can do this - and a lot more - with PyLucene.

Andi..
