You may be interested about the solution we provide with Nuxeo CPS.

Start over there for the big picture and motivations :

http://blogs.nuxeo.com/sections/blogs/julien_anguenot/2006_06_02_lucene-based-cataloging-solution-for-zope-3-cps-3-4

NXLucene is *standalone* (not Zope related !) multi-threaded
Lucene-based text indexing server using Twisted and PyLucene. It may be
of interest in your case, I don't know.

More information over there :

http://www.cps-project.org/sections/projects/nxlucene

We do have nowadays a NXLucene instance in pre-production for a customer
at Nuxeo, on which we are currently still optimizing, with more than
300k documents with around 50 fields per document. Lucene store
optimized weights more than 900Mo.

We do have another big customer project starting with 3 millions
documents at the end of the summer so be sure NXLucene will be scaling
until there pretty soon ;)

I'll be presenting NXLucene and the Zope3 / CPS Platform related stack
at EuroPython next week for those who will attend the conference :

If anyone happens to be interested, NXLucene is an LGPL software so
everybody is warmly welcome to bring use cases and new features ;) Feel
free to ask for an svn account if you wanna help out. Moreover, I might
need some help from Lucene experts for my optimizations as it was my
first experience with Lucene.

For further information or questions, please register on the cps-devel
mailing list at http://lists.nuxeo.com/

I wanted to wait for EP to personally thank you Andi IRL for PyLucene
but since here I am for my first post on this list, thank you very very
much ! We really love PyLucene at Nuxeo :)

Cheers,

        J.
