Though, why would this work on 1.0.1 and not the newer versions is puzzling.
It could be that some changes or fixes with PyLucene threading done since 1.0.1 would trigger these bugs in gcj or libgcj. Like I hinted earlier, without a gdb stacktrace, this is all guesswork.
