I'm not sure gcj is functional on openbsd. If you do give it a try, make sure 'make test' passes *all* PyLucene tests after you built PyLucene with the gcj for openbsd you also built or downloaded. I'd try gcj 3.4.x and a recent gcj 4.2.0 snapshot.
