Does the Mac actually support -rpath?  Here's what the man page says:

  -rpath path
      Add path to the runpath search path list for image being created.  At
      runtime, dyld uses the runpath when searching for dylibs whose load
      path begins with @rpath/.

Yeah, this is what I saw too and I don't know what this @rpath/ business means nor was I able to get it to work the way it works on Linux.
