I apologize for earlier posts, which were incorrect, it seems.

It now seems that getODevices crashes python not when there is *no*
soundcard, but rather when there is a sound card, but sound is
redirected to another computer by Microsoft's remote assistance.

The procedure that I used which crashed python was to connect from
computer A into computer B using Remote Assistance, and then try to
call getODevices, through remote assistance, in a python shell.

It seems that when I connected, RemoteAssistance did funny things with
the sound configuration, which apparently violated one of pymedia's
assumptions.

This is how things look now. In the upcoming hours I will verify that
this is indeed the cause of the problem.
