I'm looking for a bit of guidance in regard to x86_64. On such
a machine (2.6.18-028stab024 #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux) I unpack
1.3.7.3, do a simple-minded

    python setup.py build

and see

audio/libavcodec/dsputil.h:485: error: static declaration of 'lrintf'
follows non-static declaration
    audio/acodec/acodec.c:249: warning: initialization from incompatible
pointer type
    audio/acodec/acodec.c: In function 'ACodec_Encode':
audio/acodec/acodec.c:668: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2
of 'avcodec_encode_audio' differ in signedness
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

and so on. As recently as last summer, 64-bit generations appeared
to be unsettled <URL:

What should I know before tackling this? I don't mind working through
C code in detail; mostly I don't want to duplicate work that might al-
ready have been accomplished by someone else.
