Alternately, those of us who know Python can probably convert Perl code in a fairly short time - a far easier task than writing the script from scratch. I've done similar stuff before; it's not too difficult once you remember where to use the accursed dollar signs. I completely sympathize with your use of Perl; I've grown to hate it, but it's always the quickest solution even if I regret it months later. However, I've decided that next time I need to write something large I'm going to spend the extra time to master Python or Java. It'd be wonderful if people would similarly wean themselves off Fortran 77. . . it's already a decade too late.
