The monitor that I personally recommend and purchase for stereo 3D graphics is the NEC-Mitsubishi FP2141SB-BK 22" CRT. <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006IS9L/103-8257091-994146 1?v=glance> With up to 140 kHz horizontal dot clock and a 160 Hz vertical refresh, this monitor can do stereo 3D at 1280x1024 @ 130+ Hz, 1440x1050 @ 120+ Hz, and 1600x1200 @ 112Hz, all of which work great. The graphics card I personally recommend and purchase for stereo 3D graphics on Linux are the mid-to-high-end Quadro cards, such as the Quadro FX 1100, 1300, 1400, and 3000 (*). The Quadro FX 3000 is the fastest card I've ever seen PyMOL run on, with fluid refresh rates well above 50 Hz, even with complex representations of large molecules. Low cost glasses and emitters can be purchased from http://www.nuvision3d.com . Or if quality and comfort are more important than money to you, then check out the http://www.stereographics.com line. Cheers, Warren PS. In some cases it may be necessary to "set use_display_lists" on high-end cards in order to see maximum performance with PyMOL. -- Warren L. DeLano, Ph.D. Principal Scientist .
