Hi all,
my system is a newly installed debian-3.1 linux. 'pymol' seems to be
part
of the installed package. But when I try to open pymol, I get the
following error:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
$ pymol
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/pymol/__init__.py", line 329,
in ?
import _cmd
ImportError: libglut.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file
or
directory
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can somebody please point out the cause and the remedy? I have never
used
pymol before and this was my first try.

Hi Arvind,
The problem seems to be that an object needed by pymol
to run (libglut.so.3) is missing, In Debian, this
object is provided by the package freeglut3 so
installing that package (for example typing "apt-get
install freeglut3")you should be able to run pymol
Hope it helps,
Raúl
