For PyMOL users who value stereoscopic 3D visualization, please note that high-refresh LCD displays capable of sustaining the exact same 120 Hz stereo 3D as CRTs (60 Hz full-field to each eye, with glasses) are almost here!
All indications suggest that these low-cost (sub-$1k) displays will be the first true replacements for our tried-and-true high-refesh CRTs. At last! However, it is not yet clear whether it will be possible to directly replace old CRTs or whether a new graphics card and software updates will be required. Display inputs appear to be pure digital (no SVGA/multisync connector, so they may only work with newer DVI-based graphics cards). Anyway, please stayed tuned -- we will post definitive information as soon as we can get our hands on these units. And if you are about to buy some other kind of stereo-3D display, you might consider deferring that purchase for a couple of months...
