PyMOL loads those residues from a pickled fragment library, which 
unfortunately has some random residue numbers (most of them 2, but 
glycine for example 22). So it depends with which residue you start the 
chain.

PyMOL will insert a TER record whenever there is a discontinuation in 
residue numbers, even if the polymer is connected. If you feed PyMOL 
exported PDB files into other programs, you most likely want to suppress 
TER records like this (type in PyMOL command line before saving a PDB file):

unset pdb_use_ter_records

Regarding "Select Molecules": A molecule in PyMOL is a covalently 
connected entity. The "bymolecule" selection operator in will select 
everything which is connected to the starting selection.
