We added control over labels in a beta version but removed it because it wasn't intuitive no matter where we put it. So, while it's technically feasible, we didn't make it available in version 1.0. If something you want is missing, like this, please consider starting a PyMOLWiki webpage detailing what you want. Labels are important, so, I'm pretty sure it'll be in a future release.
