I do agree with Alex's thesis that fairly uncreative activitiy is a necessary ingredient of human society in many cases. I'm glad we don't all want to be programmers working on a new software system; this way some of us can be the grunt programmers, the taxi drivers and the cooks of this world.

No, that's not a correct inference. I think cooking *can* be a creative activity, but I agree with Alex that often it shouldn't be. I think most human activities can be creative, but I usually don't prefer a creative taxi driver taking the scenic route. :) (of course that is not the only creativity a taxi driver can display, and some of this creativity may be useful in getting me to my destination quickly and cheaply)
I'm *always* creative when cooking, but that is because I'm unskilled. :)
