I guess what you read was about the Summer-of-Code mentors.

In general we are happy to provide mentoring for anybody who is 
interested to work on some aspect of PyPy. I don't think there are any 
logs of previous (SoC) mentorings around. As for tutorials, the closest 
thing there is is the getting started document:
