It almost seems to be that this should be generalized to support other sets of language bindings that will inevitably run into the same kind of problem. I.e. use a generic name like X-KDE-ScriptName -- or even more generically, X-KDE-ExtraArgs or something -- in the .desktop file, which will tell KDE to pass some additional args along to the .so (any .so) to tell it what to go do with itself. Not sure what API ramifications this will have though.
