The vision that I have for this is to use a plugin system for the scripting engines and then provide a choice of KJS/ PyKDE / whatever engines that access the application via DCOP. If you combine this with the possibility to define scripts in XMLGUI, you can extent every KDE application with arbitrary functionality. And e.g. the toolbar configuration dialog would be a good entry point for the user to add script-driven custom tool-buttons.
