That worked. Thanks.

Should I make this a permanent thing or can it be fixed in eric3? Or is my kde/python/qt combo just too broken?

Try starting it with the environment variable e3nokde set to 1, i.e.

e3nokde=1 eric3

and see, if it still fails.

Thanks, I downloaded release 3.6.1.

Now eric starts, but I get this error when I click the 'open' button or

Save causes a crash as well. New does not.

Any ideas? I'm still willing to help pound through some debugging if it
is of interest.

Again, my platform is:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 3
Python 2.2.3 (part of distro) I can't change this. :(
   qt-3.1.2-13.4 (part of distro)
   Qscintilla 1.61-gpl-1.4 (compiled/installed by me)
sip snapshot-20041224 (later than 3.11.1) (compiled/installed by me)
   PyQt x11-gpl-3.13 (compiled/installed by me)
   PyKDE 3.11.3 (compiled/installed by me)
   eric 3.6.1 (installed by me)
   KDE 3.1.3-6.6 (part of distro)
Bicycle Repair Man CVS-20041120 (from the eric3 'Help->Versions')

Thanks,
Brett
