So maybe a first step even before embarking on the tutorials and
cookbook is to go over current documentation material and make sure it
is updates or still reflects current state of the software ?

I agree. If anything PySide could eventually contribute to Qt's
visibility and should be part of Qt proper, as another approach to
using it. I will try to create an account on the Qt developer network
wiki and start the skeleton for the cookbook tomorrow if I manage to
open an account. I couldn't find it easily enough right now, but then
again it is quite late....;-)
