Thank you: your advice was spot on - I now have compiled PySide!  
I did install python-sip-dev which had as a dependency python-dev. 
libpython2.6 was already installed.

I think the great instructions on .../wiki/Building_PySide_on_LInux 
could be further improved by adding a sentence just before the 
*Building* section  and as a continuation of the sentence:

"In the next step replace cmake with runcmake and
make install, or alternatively use the build_all script,
which does not require the alias runcmake."

If there are no objections for such a text addition, 
I would be willing to try to add the text in wiki.

Thanks to your help and the nicely set out instructions, the 
compilation of PySide was much easier than I imagined!  Thank you and 
all the developers for a great job well done!
