Hi list,
Since Algis was complaining about the list turning silent, I might as
well try to fill the void by giving a status update.
I'm spending this week in Recife, Brazil with (most) of the PySide core
dev team, having a code camp and planning our internal activities. It's
good to be here, things get much easier when you get to discuss issues
in real life. :-)
The PySide project is very much in a stabilization phase. We're
refraining from introducing any new features (except for finishing the
QML features this week) and concentrating solely on fixing any bugs to
get a rock-solid 1.0.0 final release ASAP (but not any sooner than that
- we want to make sure any major issues are fixed).
There're around 50 open P2 and P3 priority bugs in the Bugzilla at the
moment, and we have been closing bugs at a rate of 10-15 bugs per week,
so we're still more than a month off from making the final release.
We'll be making new beta releases every two weeks (next one later this
week) until the quality can be considered good enough for the final
release. I know this is a bit taxing for the packagers and I apologize
for that - but I also believe the end result will be worth the effort!
There's been lately a great influx of new tutorials and documentation in
our wiki [1]. Thanks for the contributors - your efforts are much
appreciated! If you're creating new tutorials or useful blog posts about
PySide, add a link to them to our Documentation page [2] to get some
free publicity to your work.
Some other contribution ideas:
- write software using PySide
- port existing PyQt software to PySide, reporting any bugs found
- create e.g. Qwt or QScintilla bindings for PySide (requires knowledge
of Python and C++) and report any possible toolchain and documentation
issues
Please keep using PySide and report any new-found bugs in our Bugzilla [3]!
