That, of course, makes me think about how Linux is supported. I favour and
admire that! Since "the Nokia MeeGo funding for PySide is slated to end after
this year" (quoting you) I wonder if you have the interest, and will be able,
to continue to be a 'driving force' in PySide's future. Are you open to
assuming a 'somewhat-Linus-like' role in that future? If not, then is a
successor of you 'on the horizon'? Vim

Thanks for the flattery. :-) However, I don't think me continuing in a leading
role would be a workable solution. I don't do much (or lately at all)
development on or with PySide, so without the Nokia funding, I don't see how I
could try to define the project direction.

Therefore, I think a council (or steering group, or soviet, or whatever you
want to call it ;-)) would, in my opinion, be a better solution. Then,
different major stakeholders (main developers, major users, etc) could have
proper representation and say on the project organization and facilities and
development direction. Naturally, it would be up to the different contributors
to implement features, according to agreed plans.

If need be, I would be happy to participate in the council, and during a
handover period (basically, until the end of the year), it might even make a
lot of sense. I have plenty of opinions on matters, and they don't cost much.
;-)

For example PSF, Maemo.org<http://Maemo.org>, Qt, or MeeGo project structures
could serve as good examples how to set up the project structure. They're, of
course, an order of magnitude larger than us, so some adaptation would be
required, but the basic principles most likely would apply.

Cheers,

ma.
