We are having an issue where embedded fonts (i.e., from a QRC file) are not loading properly on OS X Mavericks. Srini, I can't tell for certain based on your description, but it might be the issue you are having too.
We are using py2app <http://pythonhosted.org/py2app/> to distribute our application. Although this is not a solution to the bug, we were able to work around the issue by including the fonts as data files with py2app. This works because it loads the font from an "external" file instead of an embedded resource. If that is an option for you and you would like to adapt our code, I would be happy to provide it.
