Just so everyone's aware..
Some script kiddie gained access to an IRC op password via a donated IRC
server and, in sequence, /kill'ed all the freenode staff, then started
delinking the servers via shutdown commands.
Here's all we saw:

Freenode was inaccessable for several minutes, only one server remained and
was completely overloaded with the fallover. Currently only 5 are working and
they're obviously having load issues, though you should be able to connect.
On reconnect, we saw this:

Notice] Hi all. We've obviously had a compromise. We believe it may
be limited, but we're looking at it now, and obviously we may be
wrong. Apologies for the difficulties.
